Towbar & Towing

Q: How do I know which towbar suits my vehicle?
A: We match the right towbar to your vehicle based on its make, model, year, towing capacity, and intended use (caravan, boat, trailer). All our towbars are ADR-compliant.

Q: What types of towbars are available?
A: The main designs include:

  • Flange towbar (bolt-on plate style)

  • Swan neck towbar (sleeker, sometimes detachable)

Q: Will fitting a towbar void my car’s warranty?
A: No. A properly fitted towbar that complies with Australian standards will not void your warranty.

Q: Will a towbar affect reverse sensors or cameras?
A: In most cases, no. Some vehicles may detect the towbar as an obstacle, but systems can be adjusted to account for this.

Q: Do I need a weight distribution hitch?
A: Yes, if your trailer’s ball weight causes your vehicle’s rear to sag. It helps redistribute weight evenly, improving safety and ride comfort.

Q: When is a brake controller required?
A: In Australia, any trailer with a loaded weight over 750 kg must have brakes. If the trailer has electric brakes, your vehicle will need a brake controller.

Q: What is “ball weight”?
A: Ball weight (tongue weight) is the downward force a trailer places on the towball. It’s usually around 10% of the loaded trailer weight.

Q: What’s the legal towball height?
A: Between 350 mm and 420 mm from the ground to the centre of the towball when loaded.

Q: Does a towbar affect fuel consumption?
A: The towbar alone has little effect, but towing increases drag and weight, so you’ll use more fuel.

Installation & Compliance

Q: How long does installation take?
A: Typically 2–4 hours, depending on the vehicle and wiring complexity.

Q: Can I use my vehicle straight after fitting?
A: Yes, but we recommend avoiding heavy towing for about 24 hours to allow any sealants or fittings to fully set.

Q: Do you wire trailer lights and electrics too?
A: Yes. We include full wiring for lights and brakes, and we integrate with modern CAN-bus systems where required.

Q: Can I install a towbar myself?
A: It’s possible, but not recommended. Incorrect installation can lead to safety risks, electrical faults, and insurance issues. Professional fitting ensures compliance with ADR standards.

Q: Are your towbars ADR-compliant?
A: Yes. All of our installations meet Australian Design Rules (ADR) and road safety requirements.

Q: What warranty do you provide?
A: All towbars come with a manufacturer’s warranty, and we guarantee our workmanship. Please contact us for specific warranty details.

Q: Do I need to book an appointment?
